On occasion the natural forces of geology produce aesthetics in a specimen one can hardly stop looking at. This is one of those unique pieces. With light purple zones framing an absolutely perfect Olenellus terminatus, this plate is just stunning. The trilobite is one of the finest examples of this archaic species, featuring a narrow thorax with slight curve, ending in a very long out-whipping telson or tail spine. The purple zones are offset by a delicate dusting of quartz wafer-like crystals, resembling snow. Dendritic crystal growths are also prominent across the matrix. Discarded cephalons of the same species litter the plate. This specimen was found in the second half of the 20th Century on the flank of a silver mine, likely accounting for the unusual color zones. One of a kind!
