Description
This Olenellus chiefensis recently found its way back to us after several years. It is a spectacular specimen and easily our favorite example of this species. It measures just shy of 6 cm (5.7 cm), approaching their maximum size, and is situated on a naturally green, red, orange and tan plate, adorned with countless dendrite crystals. It’s estimated that these trilobites had a life span of possibly 5 years, and this individual shows the trials of a long life in the ancient seas around Laurentia some 520 million years ago. A small but noticeable dent on the left of the cephalon just before its point, along with an mis-grown right macropleural and one left pleural spine which was snapped or bitten off. Absolutely stunning piece.
