–
Large 2.5 cm Nephrolenellus geniculatus with an impressive 22 segment opistothorax (secondary thorax), from Lower Cambrian of Nevada. The opistothorax may be a relic left over from trilobites annelid lineage. Specimens of this species are normally in the 1cm range, making this individual quite large. Nephrolenellus is an odd looking Olenellid from the bizarre Biceratopsid family. This specimen features shorter and stouter macro pleural spines when compared to the typical examples of this species. Species in the Lower Cambrian regularly display small morphological differences within the same species at the same locality. This specimen was collected in the early 2000’s.
