–
An extremely rare offering of a large, 10.8cm Olenellus (Mesonascis) cf. fremonti trilobite from the original “Klondike Gap” locality in the remote mountain desert of Nevada. This specimen was collected about 3 decades ago and is easily one of the best examples we have seen. This is the narrow variant of this species, with most examples tending to be wider in the lower portions of the unit. Originally in the genus “Mesonacis”, most put this species in the Olenellus genus currently. No restoration.
*O. fremonti is distinguished from O. nevadensis (also found in these layers), by its large glabella which extends almost to the front edge of the cephalon.
