Description
This impressive, large Olenellus gilberti specimen measures 6.9 cm and is nicely centered on a large, solid plate of matrix. This specimen presents robust genal spines and a long telson (tail spine) the species is so well known for. This specimen also has wide pleural spines at the end of the thorax, putting space between them and the base of the telson, forming an arrangement collectors sometimes call a “trident”. It’s unclear if this is due to compression or is an anomaly the trilobite carried throughout its life. The specimen is situated on an aesthetic plate featuring attractive dendrite crystal growths and mineralized color bands. A cephalon of the species Olenellus terminatus is also present. This specimen is well suited for a wall mount, but equally as attractive as a display specimen in a collection. Various wall mount hardware can be added to the plate upon request at no extra charge.
*A side note-Olenellus trilobites of this quality are extremely rare. The specimens offered here were collected from the 1980’s through the early 2000’s and represent the top 1%.
