Species Name: Triarthrus eatoni

Order / Family: Ptychopariida / Olenidae

Locality: Oneida County, New York (Beecher’s Trilobite Bed)

Formation: Frankfort Shale

Description

One of the largest dorsal specimens ever found and prepared from this famous site. Measuring 4.6cm, this individual is near the maximum size this species could obtain. As Triarthrus gets larger the exoskeleton widens considerably, meaning the less of the legs are visible on dorsal specimens. Still this is the finest of the large dorsals we have ever prepared and offered. The specimen has incredibly long and near perfect antennae, featuring the textbook “V” form. Legs featuring gills and tripartite claws are readily visible as well. Finishing off this epic beast are well preserved eggs in each side of the cephalon with partially intact ovarian structures.
