Description
A perfect 2.9 cm Triarthrus eatoni with preserved legs, antennae and other soft tissue anatomy. This specimen is extremely vivid with high pyrite content, a true textbook presentation of rare trilobite soft tissue anatomy. The antennae are perfect and nicely extended in the classic “V” position. It features exceptionally well preserved cephalic anatomy, especially the feeding apparatus’s with full sets of mandible-like chewing gnathobases in opposing position. These gnathobases were used to grind prey up, readying them for insertion into the preserved mouth opening. Just behind the mouth a small rarely seen plate sometimes referred to as the metastome is clearly visible. Intestinal remnants are also present in this specimen. The trilobite is nicely laid out an attractive plate featuring graptolitic hash. An ostracod (Luprisca incuba) sits to the far right on the plate. Awesome specimen!
