Description
An absolutely stunning and rare Nevadia weeksi trilobite. This archaic species appears just after the first trilobites (Fallotaspids) in Laurentia approximately 520 million years ago. Fine examples of Nevadia are very difficult to obtain, with this being one of the finest examples we have seen. The trilobite is complete without the usual disarticulation near the end of the thorax. The opistothorax (secondary thorax) is remarkably clear and visible on this specimen. The vein-like vascular system is also visible, spread across the cephalic shield. Nevadia often shows visible signs of pathology and/or predation. This specimen appears to have a mis-grown or predation on the right pleural tip on the 10th segment, as well as the left genal spine (abbreviated growth). This specimen measures 5.7 cm. This specimen was collected nearly 3 decades ago.
