Description
A large 4.7 cm Olenellus gilberti from the high desert of the Great Basin near the Delamar mining ghost town. The trilobite sits on an attractive plate, featuring purple and orange colors from a natural intrusion of iron and manganese minerals. Dendrite plant-like branching crystal growths are also present, with some extending and covering the left side of the trilobite. Specimens with this level of aesthetics are very hard to come by and are a trademark of the Delamar locality where local igneous intrusions have heated the sedimentary rocks in the region producing these spectacular displays of color and preservation.
This specimen was collected in the late 1990’s when this exceptional material was accessible.
