Description
A rare Lower Cambrian Biceratopsid, this Lochmanolenellus is around 515-520 million years old. A rare species, it lived in the shalow seas in the South-West of the proto-continent of Laurentia. This example is preserved in what is often termed as “yellow cake” rock, a light weight pumice-like material that yeilds trilobites from possible ocean vent environments. Don’t worry it’s not the uranium enriched version of yellow cake.
This specimen, as with most from these deposits is slightly lateral and compressed and is a hollowed out internal mold. The species shows its sought after double genal spine as well as a prominent pygidial spine or telson which separates this as L. pentagonalis. Great opportunity for a species collector.
