Description

From the upper Wheeler Formation of western Utah comes this extraordinary plate featuring some 20 or so Bolaspidella housensis trilobites, along with an extremely rare Aysheaia sp. lobopod. ย Preserved in stunning red colors, the fossils on this plate are very aesthetic. ย The lobopod measures 1.8cm and features small spines extending from the front of the head, 2 grasping appendages, followed by numerous legs running down the trunk of the body. ย The film-like preservation, while somewhat faint, is nothing short of incredible, and is a stark contrast to the hard shelled trilobites sharing the plate. ย Other soft body fossils pepper the plate, including the pterobranch Yuknessia simplex (far right), as well as countless pellet-like dots which may be algal in origin.

The Bolaspidella trilobites dominate the rock. ย Several perfect examples of the spiny species are present, including a tiny complete 1.5mm meraspid. ย The matrix features the rose color bordered by lime green at the bottom with typical light blue interference line separating the two colors.

Stunning display piece!
