Description
Age: Lower Cambrian
Species Name: Bristolia bristolensis
Order / Family: Redlichiida / Biceratopsidae
Locality: Lincoln County, Nevada
Formation: Pioche Shale
A large and highly sought after Bristolia bristolensis trilobite from the Lower Cambrian of Nevada. Bristolia are admired by collectors for their incredibly long, sweeping spines and for their rarity, with complete specimens very, very rare. Bristoliinae existed in a narrow temporal window near the middle of the Lower Cambrian, making them scarce with just a few sites across the globe where they can be found. This specimen is naturally light orange in color, measures 7cm including the telson (tail spine) and is perfect, save for the tip of the right macropleural spine. The delicate opistothorax is present with its segments visible pressed into the surface of the base of the telson, and on either side. This specimen was collected in the late 1990’s. Excellent opportunity to grab a large example of this species.
